The Operations Coordinators are responsible for everyday lab procedures. They assist in Consultant training and act as liaisons between the office staff and Consultant staff. Operations Coordinators also serve as the authoritative body on software, policy, and projects. Working closely with the Laboratory Support Manager, the Operations Coordinators assist in Consultant scheduling and are responsible for the supervision of approximately 35 Consultants. In addition, the Operations Coordinators serve as the main contact point between Instruction Computing and the UCSB faculty. They are responsible for channeling scheduling and software requests from faculty to the Scheduling Coordinator and Software Systems group in order to ensure that courses held in the labs run smoothly. At the beginning of every quarter, Information Presentations are given by Operations Coordinators to inform lab users of Instruction Computing resources. Operations Coordinators also staff Umail's Help Desk and answer all questions regarding UCSB's e-mail system. Operations Coordinators are based at IC's front desk located in Phelps 1517.

The Consultants

There are over 30 consultants employed at Instructional Computing. These student employees monitor the computer labs, assist with security and answer user's questions. Consultants also assist classes and teach workshops throughout the quarter. An IC consultant must be familiar with multiple software applications and have in-depth knowledge of MS Word, Excel, UNIX, and HTML. Consultants go through a certification process that trains and tests knowledge in these four categories. They also provide troubleshooting in a variety of applications and some hardware aspects. Consultants produce tutorials and quick reference material every quarter for our Software Help Guide. This is the largest single group at IC and is the front line for those who use our labs.
